Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something...
Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish Raine for defying them.
So Raine comes up with a plan...
She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again.
But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves.
Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 75
Cover: There are two covers out there for this. One you can see in the tour banner, the other one I displayed in big. I have to say I love the second one more, just how I liked the second edition for the first book better.
Summary: The summary was catchy, but I didn't feel the read was as described. It was awesome, but it wasn't quite full of the things I was expecting.
Plot: While you actually continue on directly where you left off in Runes, it feels like diving into a whole new storyline, yet all the lore and the silver lining are perfectly solid.
First, there was the matter with Torin's memories. It started out a little rocky, especially since Raine was so undecided, but thanks to Andris everything worked out. Sometimes a guy just needs a good ass-kicking from his best friend to come to his senses. It also ensured more hot and sweet moments with the main couple!
Second, the Eirik plotline, which was simply epic in my opinion. I love when it's not all about the hero/heroine/main couple, when they suddenly become both main and side characters. I think that takes skill from the author, and gives a more thoughrough reading experience.
Third, the ending, where I basically gasped so as not to scream in frustration. There was another big bomb that has you wanting, begging for the sequel already.
Characters: Torin was his usual hot self throughout, funny and cocky, and I felt he was even more badass and loyal at the end of Immortals as he was at the end of Runes. I think he's becoming my new favorite YA crush.
Raine was quite like in the first book, rather naive and eye-roll-inspiring at some points, especially in the beginning, but leaving that behind more and more as she puts the pieces of the current puzzle together, summoning all her will and strength for the task at hand, growing while staying true to herself. She really grows on you.
I so knew I could grow to love Andris, because he isn't showing everything straight out. He was a total babe, cocky and loyal just like Torin, although he has quite different ways in showing it. I hope Ingrid will come out more in the third book, then.
I was quite wary of Lavania, just like Raine, but now I hope she makes an awesome addition to the team in the future as well. I mean, she's a badass instructor, with lots of years under her belt. She seems just as loyal, and like a big sister.
Overall: A lot of twists and turns, revelations, unexpectedness, deceit, love and friendship, developtment/growth, new characters, allies and enemies, suspenseful crazyness that has you reading on and on, old questions answered that leads to more new questions. Immortals simply has everything that makes a good sequel, paired with the writing style to show it off.
