After Ever reveals to Damen what he missed out on while under Roman's control, he comes to the conclusion that finally his bad karma for having lived in carefree luxury over the last centuries is returning the favor. Thus, in order to clean up his bad energy, Damen turns 180° before Ever knew what hit her. However, before he can actually sell his house, Ever finds Rayne and Romy -- now powerless and thus unable to return to Summerland -- at Ava's and since they have no where else to go, she takes them to Damen who seems, quite to Ever's dismay, content in his new role as foster father.
While the twins work as an aditional barrier to keep Ever and Damen from touching, Sabine also insists on Ever taking a summer job which she finds at Mystics & Moonbeams, the esoteric book store Ava had taken her previously. Her boss, Jude, turns out to be another love interest of hers from her previous lives; having Damen thinking that Jude is her soul mate, not him, but Ever refuses to even consider it.
As Damen seems to grow apart from her by the day, Ever is more and more determined to get the antidote from him. She hopes to find answers in the Book of Shadows she found in a secret drawer at Mystics & Moonbeams, which Jude is willing to lend her, the twins want to get their hands on because they think it'll help restore their magic faster, and Damen is convinced they all should keep their fingers off it. Of course he is outvoted, and after the twins help Ever to decipher the code it is written in, she performs a ritual to merge her mind with Roman's so she can force him to give her the antidote. However, since Ever -- like always -- didn't think her actions through, she calls for the assistance of dark magic instead of good forces. Yet, the spell seems to be inaffective, or at least not working the way Ever imagined it to work.
Later that day, Ever is throwing a party for Miles who'll be off to Florence soon, and at the end of it Haven is off with Roman, who had drawn her into his web since Ever was ignoring him and his offer to give the antidote in exchange for a night with her so fiercely, to see a fortune teller who turns out to be Ava, and Ever finds herself relaxing in the Jacuzzi tub with Jude, since Damen is absent. When Jude gets a call from Ava, Ever is sure to see an Ouroboros tattoo on his hip, marking him as rogue immortal like Roman.
However, Ever has no time to do more then tell him off because Ava's call is for her: Roman has leathally poisoned Haven, now making Ever a new offer: the antidote in exchange for Haven's life. If Ever can proof that she is not like Roman, if she sticks to her -- and Damen's -- principles and let's Haven die, he will give her the antidote. However, if Ever chooses to save Haven by making her immortal like herself, she ultimately dooms her to Shadowland, a choking nothingness that is the fate for all immortals who die because they are unable to move on to the next world.
Since Ever cannot let her best friend die because she became involved in a plot of revenge against her, a pawn in Roman's scheme, she ignores both Ava and Damen and gives the elixir to Haven. Now the antidote is still as far from her grasp as it was before, and it remains to be discovered what she will do about Haven, Ava, Jude, the twins, and the spell gone wrong.
