Series: House of Night 8
Debut: January 4, 2011
Exonerated by the Vampyre High Council and returned to her position of High Priestess at Tulsa’s House of Night, Neferet has sworn vengeance on Zoey. Dominion over Kalona is only one of the weapons she plans to use against Z. But Zoey has found sanctuary on the Isle of Skye and is being groomed by Queen Sgiach to take over for her there. Being Queen would be cool, wouldn’t it? Why should she return to Tulsa? After losing her human consort, Heath, she will never be the same – and her relationship with her super-hot-warrior, Stark, may never be the same either…
And what about Stevie Rae and Rephaim? The Raven Mocker refuses to be used against Stevie Rae, but what choice does he have when no one in the entire world, including Zoey, would be okay with their relationship? Does he betray his father or his heart?
In the pulse-pounding 8th book in the bestselling House of Night series, how far will the bonds of friendship stretch and how strong are the ties that bind one girl’s heart?
Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 18
The House of Night -- again. Any of you who read that series know how that feels: kinda weird, 'coz you want to know how the story goes on, but you'd enjoy some new faces in it. For me, it feels a bit like some TV soap, but not like one of the good ones, e.g. How I Met Your Mother is one of the good ones. Aphrodite was right to name them Nerd Herd. At first I rolled my eyes on that, but right about now I can feel her.
Let's start with the cover: I like. First I thought it might be Kalona, but now I'm convinced it's Rephaim. Mostly because of the red tattoos. And if he really looks like that... I envy Stevie Rae. ^.^ I'm glad the two of them worked out like that, I even think Nyx gave the Cherokee boy a suitable punishment -- as long as he won't stay like that for the rest of his life. Well, maybe even that'd be fair, considering he'd be reborn as a regular mortal, destined to find Stevie Rae's soul and become her consort again. Doesn't that sound romantic? At least it sounds like something Nyx would cook up.
Okay, what else? I think the new position and display of Stark is kinda overboard now, even for me. I'm about to change teams, just to annoy that voice in my head that says him and Zoey fit together perfectly anyway, now more than ever with her being a Queen and him being her Guardian. And that freakish accent? That's the only new cool feature, don't know why Z has a problem with that. Oh, and I'm all for him taking up the bow again. Ignoring gifts from the goddess surely isn't a good idea, despite what happend up til now. He got it for a reason, so it will come in handy sooner or later.
Next boy: Erik. His new call as tracker sure is interesting, and I think it's nice to know he's still in the picture, that Nyx does have a role for him to play in this war.
Neferet and Kalona: finally apart. Geez, it took some time for them to figure they can't really help each other's cause. The whole catastrophy could've been avoided, but no. I'm guessing it had to come about like this for Neferet to finally meet her end and Kalona to be forgiven by Nyx. Yes, I do think there will be forgiveness for him at the end, that's why there's no pairing him with Zoey. He's already taken, no matter how absurd his reasoning and clouded his heart might have become.
And about the end of that installment: I was seriously panicked for Grandma there for a second. I'm glad it wasn't her, probably couldn't do it because there'd be too many angry readers after that. That made me very, very curious about the next installment, though.
