In Her Shoes is a bookish meme invented by Vanya at YA Story Teller. To participate, simply put yourself in the shoes of a heroine you've recently read about, and then tell what you thought of her, what you would do in her stead, or what you've learned from her.
Clarice was nothing like a princess, at least not as you expect, with beautiful dresses and a long line of suitors, nope. She was really steadfast and intelligent, adative, and so on -- all the things a real leader needs. A daddy's girl, I dare say, but he and her mother both shaped her into a wonderful person. Then again, Clarice has a knack for the sword just as much as for leadership. I liked how she ended up on the sea and seeing the whole world just like she always wanted. Yes, she may be trained to lead a country and it was hers by birthright before her baby brother was born, but that doesnt' mean it was her wish to rule. Nope, she's an adventurer, and where better to go for adventure than to foreign countries and across the seas? And for that, her facade as a man servied her purpose well. I believe she would've let go of it eventually anyway, and became known as a swordmistress, so famous even her family would hear praise and stories from strangers about her. She has both the skills and the character for it.
Well, she found the adventure she was looking for, and she handled it in stride for the most part. She handled pirates, an evil witch, and fell in love with a good man who first thought her a boy. Definitively not your everyday princess story, but a part of her is still princess at heart, just like the other part is adventurer/pirate.

Title: The House of the Four Winds
Series: One Dozen Daughters 1
Author: Mercedes Lackey & James Mallory
Expected Publication: August 5, 2014
The rulers of tiny, impoverished Swansgaard have twelve daughters and one son. While the prince’s future is assured, his twelve sisters must find their own fortunes.
Disguising herself as Clarence, a sailor, Princess Clarice intends to work her way to the New World. When the crew rebels, Clarice/Clarence, an expert with rapier and dagger, sides with the handsome navigator, Dominick, and kills the cruel captain.
Dominick leads the now-outlawed crew in search of treasure in the secret pirate haven known as The House of Four Winds. They encounter the sorceress Shamal, who claims Dominick for her own—but Clarice has fallen hard for Dominick and won’t give him up without a fight.
Why I am looking forward to this: Love this cover! Being a Pirates of the Carribean fan, I love watching pirates, but have to say I never read a story on them. So this is a bit out of my usual, which makes me like it even more. =)
