Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme about (mostly) books and reading.

I saw a Latin edition of “The Hobbit” last time I was at the bookstore… Do you read any foreign languages? Do you ENJOY reading in other languages?

Since my native language is German I can answer that with a generous YES. I chose to blog in English to reach more people, but also because I was reading more and more English books. If I knew any other languages, I think I would be picking up books written in those every once in a while as well.

By now, I would go as far as saying I read more English than German, because I enjoy the language more than my own. Sometimes I think I should be sad about it, other times it doesn't bother me at all. Do any of you experience that?

  1. With English being my first (and pretty much only) language, I get embarrassed at the fact that so many others embrace my language, while many English-speaking people (myself included) are unable to converse or read other languages, apart from some basic phrases or words. I used to be able to hold down a basic conversation in German, but not any more 🙁 Here is my BTT Post for this week. Maybe this topic will inspire me to try a new language.
