Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 100
It's been a while since I read the first book, but I remembered how much I liked it, and my dad had me buy the other books so he could read on without me, thus I was pretty sure that reading on would be worth every minute of my time -- and it was!
I loved the second book even more than the first, because Kylie finally really got into her powers, although it's not until about halfway through the book. The way everything falls into place piece by piece, and how it's all coming down at the end. Awesomeness, can't help but love it. It's a perfect plotline. It was harsh, suspenseful, the positive type of emotionally exhausting, had a little action, humor, stress, yelling, blood, romance... Perfect, just perfect.
As teens book do, this had a lot of drama. All kinds of it, too. Family drama, ghost drama, friendship drama, destiny drama, identity crisis drama, and, of course, boyfriend drama.
This book was very, very heavy on Kylie, and she cried a lot. However, I never once rolled my eyes, because with what she has gone through -- I sure as hell would've cried from exhaustion, too. She was coming into new powers she didn't yet understand, she was fearing to change first into a vampire, then into a werewolf. Neither happened, and she was still the freak show of the camp; she still doesn't know what species she belongs to. Her friends had problems, so of course she was worried and tried to help. The ghost that was nagging her this time didn't become clear until almost at the end, and it was nicely played. Line, hook and sinker.
Derek was being a bitch and Lucas coming back didn't make things easier between them. In fact, it made it a hell of a lot worse. But Derek is actually stupid enough to make the rift between them bigger, so Lucas can sweep in and save the girl. I've been Team Lucas in the first installment as well, and all this made it real solid for me.
But again, this wasn't all about Kylie. I love how C.C. Hunter brings in all her secondary characters equally. Miranda and Perry had trouble, big time!, so had Della. Holiday and Burnett still haven't come around, but at they at least moved closer. I really want to know how the two pairings are going to work out, because I'm rooting for them just as loud as for Lucas, believe me. I love those characters, and wouldn't want to miss any one of them.
I am very, very much looking forward to reading on and getting my hands on anything from this series. Need to get those extra novellas, too!
