Snuck from: Carmen Jenner
Read: October 30-November 2, 2013
Ana Belle never wanted anything more than to hang up her apron, jump on her Vespa and ride off into the sunset, leaving Sugartown in the dust.
Elijah Cade never wanted anything more than a hot meal, a side of hot arse and a soft place to lay his head at night where he could forget about his past.
But you know what they say about wanting: you always want what you can’t have.
Nineteen year-old virgin Ana is about to discover that’s not quite true because a six foot three, hotter than hell, tattooed, Aussie sex god just rode into town. He’s had a taste of her pie and he wants more–no really, Ana bakes pies for a living, get your mind out of the gutter.
She’d be willing to hand over everything tied up in a big red bow, there’s just one problem: Elijah has secrets dirtier than last week’s underwear. Secrets that won't just break Ana’s heart, but put her life at risk, too. When those secrets come to light, their relationship is pushed to breaking point.
Add to that a psychotic nympho best friend, an overbearing father, a cuter than humanly possible kid brother, a wanton womanizing cousin, the ex from hell, and more pies than you could poke a ... err ... stick ... at.
And you thought small towns were boring.
Welcome to Sugartown.
Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 86
Plot: There was quite some up and downs in this. It started out innocently enough, but developed a depth in characters as well as plot that was a pleasure to see unfold. Some turns were expected, others were not, and the mix made it an even nicer read. I'm giving extra credit for the time Elijah had to spend away from the story, and for Bob sticking up for him behind Ana's back. It's really not often you'd find people like that, and it was one of my favorite things to come across. =)
The ending was a little... unbalanced and forced, but probably not for most. However, I'm still looking forward to the two sequels planned!
Characters: Ana was a really sweet thing, but with some fire in her, too. A real character with strengths and weaknesses, a quick tongue and a cute blush. She didn't have the worst, nor the easiest life. I think writing a character to walk that fine line in the middle isn't easy at all.
Elijah was quite the dickhead, no two ways about it. He has gone through basically all the shitholes in the world, and cursed his way around town, but he had a good heart. Since Ana was a daddy's girl, it was easy for her to fall for Elijah who was so much like her father, inside and out. 😉
Ana & Elijah as a couple... oh boy, there really was a lot of destructive fire between them. However, Ana sure as hell brought his good traits out even more, and playfully made him work for her heart. Their rough patch was... well, Ana blamed him well too much and too long, despite being so open-minded and open-hearted otherwise. Seriously, I in Elijah's shoes would've tried to keep my past buried as well, especially when I thought I finally had a shot at something good. Ana being Ana should've seen that and gotten the heck over herself.
Holly & Jackson were real awesome sidekicks, espcially their really, really weird kind of realtionship towards the end. 😉 Plus, I totally loved how Holly got her part in the story as well. ^_^
The Belle Boys, meaning baby Sammy and papa Bob, were two awesome additions to this mess the same. Gotta love a big teddy bear dad like Bob who'd then tear a man to shreds for his baby girl. And Sammy was everything that name implies: a cutie in every word and gesture.
Else: There was ALOT of cursing, and at some points it even made my nose wrinkle, although I consider myself having a long and thick fuse in that regard.
