Original FF: The Office by tby789
Debut: February 11, 2013
Snuck from: Laura @ Blame it on the Rain
An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.
Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He’s exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.
Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family’s massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who’d been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he’s never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe’s so tempting he’s willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office
As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they’re willing to lose in order to win each other.
Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 36
After the big hype about Fifty Shades of Grey that turned out to be a fat fail for so many of us who read too much that's just better quality, I decided to not pick it up at all. At least for now, while I have more interesting things on top of my stack. However, I did not turn down this one, although I heard several people say it's basically the same thing, foremost because I could get it free from Netgalley.
I knew this was a FanFic polished up for publishing, so I picked this up with the same expectations I would have for an FF. The fandom really doesn't matter with that, since it's AU and the names are changed. It happened to be Twilight again, but I know there are a lot of FFs out there in many fandoms that are just as good or even better. They just haven't been found yet, because no one is acutally looking for them; at least no one like a publisher unrelated to the fandom.
Anyway, as I was saying, I approached Beautiful Bastard with expectations for a good smut Fic, and that's what I got. The physical outweighed the plot by far, which probably bothers most haters, but it's what I expected to find. To be honest, I expected even greater detail, but was perfectly fine with how it was written, since I'm not really the S&M fan. So nothing too over-the-top here, that was good, and not even too detailed. Plus, I can praise that reading the emotions was just as intense as reading the sex.
It was nice (and very FF like) that the plot developed slowly, and I didn't care that it wasn't too deep, either. I enjoyed Chloe and Bennett as two stubborn, hard-working firecrackers who could get each other worked up real good in an instant; it was so much fun to read their bickering and banters, they were such a perfect match.
[Start SPOILER] Plus, I'm giving lots of credit for Chloe to choose her career over her love life, no matter how head-over-heels she was, how crazy he made her feel, how much she knew she'd never find someone like him again, AND then for Bennett to get his act together and actually ordering/begging her to take him back. Not something many man do, especially not badass and successful guys like him, I was really impressed. [End SPOILER]
Overall, I can say it wasn't much for a book in the real sense, but if you looked at it as an FF, it was very good. Just the thing that would get so many reads online, in any fandom.
