Emily Stafford has fallen into heat and needs it bad. Real bad. After one innocent run-in with her neighbor and his sexier-than-homemade-sin voice at the mailroom in her condominium complex, she had a toe curling… you know. When her second encounter with the object of her lust is just as innocent and has the same result, Emily decides to seize the moment and have herself a hot, no strings attached affair.
Jake Grayden has a plan and it doesn't include 'wham-bam-thank you-sir's. He's made up his mind that Emily is the one for him and he's willing to take as many long, cold showers as is necessary to make her realize that she wants the same thing. But when she overpowers his self-control and her heart begins to beat for him and only him, the race is on for Jake to break down Emily's emotional barriers and show her the fine art of loving… and being loved.
Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 65
Cover: I love guy covers, and isn't this one totally hot? And how she grabs him from behind... raw!
Plot: It's pretty much as the summary indicates. Emily and Jake are totally lusting after another, but also fall in love with the other. There's also some nice side story about giving help to others like you received before out of pure conviction that it's the right thing.
Characters: Jake was the cutest thing. Really, he grew to be a very, very loveable character, and I could totally see how he would wait out Emily's lust-driven aiffair-haze, because he's a family guy born and bread.
Emily was... not conflicted, but she had it rough and for that she's totally sweet and kind -- because someone has shown her kindness when she needed it the most. Her Lee personality seemed forced, but probably because it was forced from Emily. It was a mask, and as that it read. However, I have to say her being a virgin at this age and just now feeling the heat is a little too far-fetched.
Loved all the sidekicks! From Emily's side as much as from Jake's.
Overall: Sexy, but not so great a heroine, and definitvely too cliche a drama. It was okay for a short story, though.
