Seventeen-year old Sarah’s life is turned upside down when her single mom is sent to jail. She’s forced to move, leaving behind everything she’s ever known, including her best friend Sydney. Lost and bitter in a new school, her one goal is to save money and move back home. Then she meets Angel Moreno.
Enigmatic but gorgeous, Angel is almost too good to be true. Except for one thing, his archaic belief that guys and girls can never be “just friends”. The problem? Sarah’s best friend Sydney is not a girl.
With their unexpected romance intensifying to places neither ever experienced, how long can Sarah keep Angel in the dark about the guy waiting for her back home?
Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 51
Names: Naming someone Angel in a RL read is a little strange, and a guy no less, but whatever. If he's not embarressed, I won't be bitchy. 😉 BUT having a rather rare case of male Sydney in this was awesome. ^^
Characters: Sarah, Angel and the rest of the family weren't anything over the top, nothing particularly special, but I liked this kind of normalcy. This is a RL novel, after all. They get all the points for being stubborn and headlessly in love, jealous and just the right amount of nosy. And then there was the crazy villain! who definitively scores.
Next to the lead couple, the supporting characters were also quite good, and I'm looking forward to reading their stories in the next installments in this series!
Plot: A very nice contemporary, especially considering their age. It had everything from the sweetness of the first meeting, the reluctance to admit being drawn to each other, misunderstandings, jelousy, a bit of a break up, and a bit of smut.
The whole Sydney confusion gets some bonus points from me, as well as the parallel plot that contained a real threat. They all made a good fit, although it didn't totally lose your head in it.
