In 2065, the Lilliput Project created Lina - the first six-inch-tall winged girl - as the solution to a worldwide energy and food crisis. Isolated in a compound amidst the forests of Denmark, Lina has grown up aware of only one purpose: learn how to survive in a world filled with hawks, bumblebees, and loneliness. However, on the eve of her sixteenth birthday, she discovers that she's not the only teenager her size. Six 'Toms' were created shortly after Lina, and now her creators need to prove to the world that tiny people are the next logical step in human evolution. In other words, they need to prove that reproduction is possible.
Um. No thanks. Lina's already fallen in love with a boy she met online named Jack. Only he has no idea that thumbelina1847 could literally fit inside his heart.
When her creators threaten to hurt Jack unless she chooses a husband from among the 'Toms', Lina agrees to star in a reality TV series. Once the episodes begin to air, the secret of her size is out. Cut off from any contact with the outside world, Lina assumes Jack is no longer interested. After all, what guy would want to date a girl he can’t even kiss?
Slowly, very slowly, she befriends the six young men who see her as their only ticket to happiness. Perhaps she can make just one guy's dream of love and companionship come true. But her creators have a few more twists in store for her that she never thought possible.
She's not the only one playing to the cameras.

In the beginning, we meet heroine Lina, short for Thumbelina, a six-inch-tall human with Damselfly wings who is training for survival outside her reasearch compound as usual. We learn she has a online realtionship with Jack, who she fell in love with over time, but he doesn't know she's a tiny girl not only human, and when the computer she's not even supposed to have gets confiscated, Lina has no opportunity to tell him the truth before she is revealed to all the public.
Right in the next step, she learns that she's never supposed to be free once she comes of age at 16, but is to meet the six counterparts created for her, called Toms, where she has to chose one to mate with for the next step of the experiment. But it's not just that she doesn't want anyone but Jack, but that her creator is threatening to hurt him if she doesn't cooperate for the cameras in the "reality TV show" where is is supposed to chose one of the Toms at the end.
Throughout the show, we sadly don't get to know all the Toms that well, but at least we get a dynamic between all them and Lina. There's two that stand out: the ever-cheerful Row who Lina starts to fall for a bit, and the mysterious Blue who keeps his distance but seems to be a very good guy at heart, most likely trustworthy and a fighter.
While Lina is under the pressure of the cameras and being nice to the Toms, always afraid something might happen to Jack if she screws up, she's still not the type to give up so easily. She keeps investigating, and what she finds isn't good. Her tormentor, Dr. Christiansen aka the white witch, is about to stand trial for the deaths of six other Tumbelinas. Thus, there were originally enough Thumbelinas for the Toms, but now only Lina is left.
Upon returning home, Lina's only ally, George, has left the compound, and she soon realizes that Mister Croxworth, who she also deemed an ally, was actually only pretending to be her friend while working close for Dr. Christiansen. Furthermore, the doctors are conducting experiments on animals that they are trying very hard to keep a secret, but Lina feels that there is a lot more to it -- and it would be very dangerous for her to find out. But she needs to know, so she keeps snooping around to find out more.
After hearing screams from the lab, Lina and Row watch the lab assistant Jane bury a tiny body. So when Lina and Jack a presented with the offer of him getting shrunk to her size, but she doesn't get the chance to tell him the huge risk, she does the only thing she knows -- she breaks his heart and agrees to pick one of the Toms in the final TV episode.
On that show, just as she is about to chose Row, he is reunited with his love Daphne, now shrunk to his size, but as they lie in each others arms, Daphne gets the seizures and dies. Lina is positively heartbroken on all fronts, because she has lost Jack, Row was never on her side although she trusted him, and Dr. Christiansen won. But then the police shows up and everything turns around.
George picks up Lina, telling her the true story about the dead Thumbelinas, and then Lina gets another chance on TV to tell her side of the true story -- where she is then re-united with Jack. They make up, and both Lina and George move to Jack's family in South Dakota.
The epilogue promises that Jack will volunteer to be shrunk by another company, and we already know that it's Croxworth who provided the serum stolen from the Denmark lab. He has improved it, but there's still going to be a lot of trouble, probably because the small Jack will have to be a soldier for the company providing the serum instead of being with the girl he loves in the end.
