Blurb: When the one thing you live for is taken from you, do you let it go or do you fall?
Jade, like any other student at Brushwood High, awaits the start of the school year with a certain measure of dread. Worse, she is being threatened by a voice that only she can hear—a voice that lurks at the edges of her awareness, haunting her and warning her of something unknown. She has always been able to count on her two best friends, Claire and Nate, but can she confide in them now? About this? Would they even believe her?
Life takes a turn for the better when she meets Avan, a darkly handsome new student who, somehow, seems to drown out the voice and make her feel at ease.
But Jade soon comes to realize that good things don’t last forever. When everything spirals out of control, she is shattered by something she never saw coming. Dazed and despairing, she must now overcome tragedy and embrace her true existence and a new but dangerous love. Will she be able to save herself and those she loves, before it’s too late? Or will she let the surrounding darkness consume her?

HEE Summary:

There's this weird flash of light that Jade saw the first time shaking Avan's hand, coming together with the feeling of falling... and now there seems to be a current of energy in between them whenever they touch. Okay, the voice in her head is probably just as weird, issuing a warning about Ki-sikil-lil-la-ke she can't understand, and the green-eyed guy she first only saw in her sleep but now thinks to catch glimpses of around her as well... But who is she to complain, when she's so happy with the new guy Avan?

Then everyone prepares for Halloween, and with it comes Jade's picked (up) 17th birthday. But now the voice is more persistent in her mind, she starts to feel watched, and then that black panther on her lawn in the middle of the night, behaving like no wild cat would in its stillness. It's finally starting to really scare her, but she still doesn't know what to do about it. Then, on Halloween, Jade comes home from school to find her parents literally slaughtered in their home, and a mysterious redhead waiting for her. Wanting to fight, but of course not being stupid, Jade makes a run for it, ultimately having no other option but to jump off a cliff.

Somehow, it was Claire pulling her out the water. While unconscious, in shock and pain, she watches out for her best friend without pressing anything. Jade remains by herself right up to the funeral, only having a vivid dream about Claire, who is actually an angel and can turn into a lion, and a woman named Lilith to almost battle, and then she really met and talked to her green-eyed dream guy for the first time. He tells her that it wasn't a dream, but rather a different realm she was on, but it doesn't sink in just yet.

There is a change of perspection to Lilith, revealing her as a being of true evil. To her surprise, she found that Jade wasn't a normal girl but an angel. A true angel, not a fallen one, since her wings were white. She had managed to steal a feather from Jade's wings as she jumped off that cliff, and now she found her to be the perfect victim for her plan.

Next thing, Jade wakes up in a strange room -- which turns out to be inhabited by the guy from her dreams.Turns out Blake, as is his name without a last name, picked her up from the cemetery (that she thought she dreamed of) where someone tried to mug her, and she's been out cold in his house for four days. Moreover, he is reluctant to let her leave, since it isn't safe. Safe from what, he won't tell, but he let's another rather confusing bomb drop by calling her "his destiny". And that just to have her wake up at home, Claire telling her she'd been out for four days. Now is the question: was her meeting with Blake dream or reality?

Then Jade starts spreading her wings without being in control of it, not really understanding what's going on. Claire still has her attending school Friday, promising to explain over the weekend. But Jade doesn't make it quite through the school day, escaping somewhere in the middle and dicides to go to the library to do some research. Sure enough, she finds the lore about Ki-sikil-lil-la-ke, understanding that Lilith belongs into the category of Adam and Eve, and later became a demon. Now it's time for some answers.

The three of them? Angels. The magical coming-of-age number? 17. Avan? The guy Jade literally fell for, leaving Heaven without being aware of it. No, it's not forbidden for angels to love mortals, since they are beings created to love, but they're forbidden to mate with mortals, which would turn them into fallen ones. The flash Jade experience the first time touching Avan, and the energy that seemed to flow between them? Kindred souls at work. Nate and Claire? Jade's protectors, beings of "four faces" -- human, ox, lion and eagle. Also mates, although Nate is second after Claire lost her original mate, Shemer.

At first reluctant to even accept the facts, Nate and Claire take Jade to her first training session right away, teaching her to at least control the emerging of her wings, since this was the most important at the moment. As reality sinks in, Jade actually gets quite excited about her powers, and finds her fighting spirit again. As things stand, though, she isn't so sure about Avan anymore, at least not at the moment. Moreover, every time he comes close, Blake's coming to her mind and she recoils. However, she still wants Avan, there is no denying that. But since she is a seraph, a type of angel that can be used as a portal (to heaven or to fulfill wishes), it would be really bad for her to fall. However, it is possible for her to share her divinity with him, making him immortal like she is, but it would mean to turn their backs on heaven forever.

As they fall into the new routine, meaning training Jade in her abilities, and Nate sharing his intel with her whenever she had questions, Jade hooked up with Avan again for real, getting Amy back into her bitch mode. However, now some strange things happened to her now and then... Life could be good, but of course not for too long. Lilith sends a warning by killing to kids from the school, basically the same way she slaughtered the Lovecrafts. It shows Jade that her problems won't just disappear if she ignored them, so she really wants to tell Avan her big angel secret, wanting to make sure that he could accept her for what she is before she actually shared her divinity with him.

For winter break, the four of them move out into a luxury hut in the woods. Just one last date the day before, where Jade asks Avan if he would love her even if she turned out to be someone else. Giving a vague answer, Jade knows he'd never accept the true her, but she hides the change in her attitude from him. Right the first night, Jade sees Shemer's, Claire's original mate, death and as she takes the sword out of his hand, it somehow makes the trip back with her to the here and now. And sure enough, she needs it because Avan gets kidnapped by Lilith while being just out of sight of his friends.

Just as predicted, Jade rushed to save him. First, she encountered Amy in some kind of possession, and of course Jade can't find it in her to let even her arch enemy suffer, since she was a mere mortal. Somhow she manages to get Avan to safety and Amy un-possessed, but Lilith can still kidnap Amy in the end. However, that wasn't the only thing. At the next encounter, Lilith doesn't only have Amy, but also Avan as one of her puppets, yet before they start out to fight, Lilith explains in length what happened in the past to lead up to this very moment. It buys just enough time for Jade and Avan to realize the mess they are actually in, and for Claire and Nate to catch up to them.

Avan, having been infused by Lilith with - in essence - demon blood, was now immortal but tainted, and because of the history of his kind, Claire - and therefore Nate - was hell heavenbent on killing him. Jade can't let them, so they start to fight each other, leaving Lilith to watch. Although she asks for Lilith's help, willing to sacrifice herself for her lover, Claire kills both Amy and Avan. Rage and despair consuming her, Jade's wings turn black, so now she is of no more use to Lilith who escapes. However, just as Jade turns on her best friends, set on killing them to avenge Avan, he appears. The end, abrupt as it is.

I was being lenghty... again. I'm not so sure I'm sorry, though. 😉 However, if I have left anything out that you feel should be in this summary, please go ahead and add your thoughts!
