HEE Summary:

Rylie hast slept two full weeks after her full transformation. When Rangers found her on the mountain, she moved to her aunt's ranch in the country because she can no longer endure the city. Enrolling into the tiny high school, she is the freak yet again, since the wolf's temper is hard to control at times.

When Rylie confesses to her aunt that she is a werewolf, she seems to believe her, but then takes her to a hospital to meet a psychologist. However, the psycholigist seems to be a witch or similar, as she is wearing a necklace with a symbol, and knows Rylie is telling the truth. So instead of locking her up for being crazy, she gives her the number of a colleague, presumably also witch or werewolf. However, Rylie never gets to go to California to meet with him.

When she kills her aunt's cows during a moon, hunters are onto her. And not just any hunters: Seth, his brother Abel, and his mother Eleanor. So as they meet again, the circumstances are even less unfortunate. But Seth believes in his heart that Rylie is different, she had already spared him once, so he wants to help her hide from her family. But Abel, who almost turned into a werewolf himself, can feel what she truly is, and Eleanor is a cunning and cruel woman.

Seth confesses to his brother that Rylie spared his life on the mountain, and Abel promises not to tell Eleanor. However, when Seth wants to hide Rylie in an old mine on the first moon, they show up which leads to Rylie breaking free of her confinement, getting shot in the leg by Eleanor, and Abel getting bitten a second time. When the night is over, Eleanor watches as Rylie stumbles out of the bushes around her aunt's house, dirty and naked, and Seth, who had already been waiting for her to show up, rushes to her side. She's disgusted and disappointed, and she wants to teach her son a lesson.

Eleanor catches Rylie, drags her behind the motorcycle, but she manages to get away and hide out with her school friend Tate. On the next moon, Samhain, Rylie's aunt Gwyn is away on a treatment for her AIDS, which Rylie only finds out by snooping around when she is looking for money to run away. It makes her love her aunt all the more, and to stay and help her. The day before, Seth is supposed to come over already, and then help to keep her contained the next night, but his mother locks him up, then attacks Rylie and puts her in a werewolf cage. Seth is supposed to shoot her to prove his worth.

Instead, he frees Rylie and points the gun at his mother. Rylie is weakened by a silver bullett and the wolfsbane around the cage, and further burned by the silver in the cage's bars. Adding her extra aggression of the Samhain moon, Seth is basically suicidal to still believe she recognizes him, but she does, and even his mother sees it. Rylie is too weak to attack or run, she simply collapses, unconsious for the rest of the night. Seth removes the silver bullet, and can only hope she will turn back with sunrise.

As the sun rises, Rylie turns back to her human form, not a scratch on her. And the best thing: she doesn't remember any of the horrors of the night. When Eleanor comes back to collect Seth, telling him they would leave Rylie alone like he wanted, he refuses just like his brother Abel, who is going his own way now since he believes his mother crossed a line. Seth stays as a farm hand, earning his own money, and can finish school and then move on to college like he always wanted.

After being this close to death, Rylie can no longer feel the wolf in her at all. But for how long?
