Ever saved Haven's life by making her immortal like herself, yet her best friend doesn't see the need for all the rules that are forced on her. Haven has beauty and power, and she wants to use them to her advantage. Furthermore, Haven doesn't believe Roman is the bad guy, but that he would've never let her die, even if Ever wouldn't have chosen to safe her. De facto, she makes out Roman to be her new boyfriend.
Then Ever performs a ritual that is supposed to bind Roman to her, so she can force him to give up the secret to undo his curse on her and Damen's relationship. Yet Ever is so over-eager, she performs the ritual under the power of Hekate, Goddess of the Dark, so the spell backfires big time and ties her to Roman instead. Now there's a Dark Flame inside of her, making her crave his touch instead of Damen's, and everything spirals out of control real fast. In her rampage, Ever attacks Jude physically -- but he doesn't heal like the fallen immortal she thought him to be. For reconciliation and in hope he might help her brake the spell, get back to normal, she takes him to Summerland.
Ava turns out to be the twins aunt, back from the witch trials they fled, reborn. Still, Ever can't bring herself to trust her again, although Damen doesn't even hold a grudge. However, she now has access to the Akashic Records, just like Damen and even Jude, yet Ever is forbidden to enter because she has turned to the dark side of magic. On her voyage through the limbo, she discovers it's dark side and is terrified, yet runs before anything could happen there.
Due to the spell, Ever cannot confide in Damen, or anyone else, because the Flame wouldn't let her. Although, she tries to sort it out herself since she believes Damen would hate her if he found out. Only in Summerland can she talk freely. The first attempt to free herself from Roman backfires yet again, only increasing her attraction to him -- pissing off Haven even more.
When the second try seems to work, Ever and Damen reconcile, but then Roman wants to give her the antidote for her birthday if she came by -- or so he says. Ever, naive as she is, goes to him and the monster, the Flame takes over her once more. She tries to seduce Roman by making herself look like Drina for him, then attacks Haven when she interrupts. Before anything more can happen, Ever flees into Summerland with the last bit of her personality ruling.
There she considers actually crossing the Bridge, following her parents and her sister Riley. Yet Jude comes before she can take too many steps in that direction, and she pours out everything that happend to him, practically begging him to help her. His advice is to go to Ava, she's always managed to help her. And she does, helping Ever with a number of cleansing rituals so she feels better, gets her dark side back under control, all the while hoping that Roman might lose interest in her.
Working on becoming her old self, Ever also wants Haven back as her best friend, especially before Miles comes back and school starts. And although there will always be some tension between them, Haven is willing to try.
Then Ever makes another trip to the Akashic Records and sees Roman's life flash before her, so she can understand and no longer hate him. She goes to him in order to make clear there will be no more fighting between them, antidote in question or not. While there, she figures they could do an exchange: she shows him the Shadowland, where Drina is now, and he gives her the antidote. He puts the little bottle in his shirt pocket before Ever takes him on the vision quest.
They sit, both lost in what they see, when Jude shows up, because he knew that Ever was going to Roman's again, and because he's afraid she might be in danger, he followed her. Seeing them in that state, he thought her in danger and attacks Roman, breaking the bottle of antidote in the process. Before Ever can stop Jude, he delivers the blow to Roman's chakra that kills him, and with him the formula for the antidote.
The next moment, Haven walks in. Or course she's unwilling to listen to any reason, promising them both an open war, practically hell on earth. Instead of winning back her best friend, Ever has made a new arch enemy.
