The last journey, which involved both, Damen and Ever, although Ever really grew to become herself in her tasts this time.
First, Ever, Damen and Jude had to go back to their very first life, which neither of them knew about up to that point, where Ever was the Adelina that Lotos was looking for, and everyone else (Roman, Haven, Drina, Damen, Jude, Miles) was around her then. Damen was Alrik, heir to the throne in the kingdom they all lived in, Roman was his younger brother Rhys who had eyes on his promised wife Esme, later reborn as Drina, who wanted Alrik for the crown, and was also Adelina's rich cousin. Her younger sister Fiona, who was in love with Rhys, was reborn as Haven. Jude, in this life named Heath, was Alrik's best friend and first knight, as much in love with Adelina as he was.
Alrik was his father's favorite, but he had no ambitions to wear the crown, and he was certainly not interested in his bride-to-be, Esme. Instead, he wanted Adelina who was way below his standard. As he arranges to marry her in secret, it's breaking Heath's heart, so he is not there to guard their secret. Alrik is forced to trust his brother Rhys with this, thinking he'd be happy since Alrik's actions would cost him Esme, maybe even the crown. Because he talks in his sleep, Fiona finds out about the marriage, tells her sister Esme, who shows up in the hunting cabin to kill Adelina while Alrik was away only a few hours before the wedding by pushing her out the window. And Miles, well, he was the doctor who couldn't safe Adelina but refused to try out anything mystic-magical. Alrik, desperate to try and save his love, calls on an old woman with her two apprentice daughters (Ava and the twins, Romy and Rayne) to try their elixir.
That's the karma they carried since then, and they successfully managed to redo their mistakes over and over again.
At the end of their journey, Damen and Ever safe all the immortals imprisoned in Shadowland, cleansing Summerland into it's pure self once again. The freed souls move on and are waiting to be reborn. But Lotos has one more journey in store fore Ever, to safe the rest of the immortals still walking the earth. While Damen refused to accompany Ever even on the first journey but changed his mind in the last minute, he did skip out on this one, because he believes The Tree of Life Ever is supposed to find is just a myth.
Searching for the Tree of Life, Ever has one rough journey ahead of her. When she's almost there, Rafe, Misa and Marco shove her down the cliff to reach the tree -- and the one fruit it's supposed to bear every thousand years -- first. Rafe reaches it first, and decides to share with Misa and Marco. However, as Ever manages to safe herself from the endless fall and climb back up to the tree, Marco does not show her the same courtesy, since he dislikes her. But Ever knows something they don't: the tree is everbearing, as Lotos told her, so she picks a few more fruits to take back with her to share with all the immortals who would chose the immortality of their soul over that of their bodies.
At the very last, it's Damen to convince. In the half year that Ever was gone, many things changed. Jude and Honor are a couple, and Ever encourages him to give her a real chance. Then Ever reconciles with Sabine, who finally admits that there are such things as immortals and -- for lack of a better term -- magic. It was a little hard on her, but she came around, especially once she heard that Ever would be mortal again soon. And in the mean time, Damen also managed to get the antidote ready, because he's not really ready to give up his youth and powers. But Ever pushes him to choose -- his bodily immortality, or her. Proving he learned from reliving his first life, he choses his love over everything else, eating the fruit with Ever and becoming mortal, yet remaining powerful and able to return to Summerland.
If that's not a happy ending, I don't know what is. All souls redeemed, all karma restored, everything peachy -- Ever even properly graduated.
