Summer 1963: Ennis El Mar and Jack Twist hire for herding sheep in Wyoming, so they first become partners and soon, in the lonliness of the mountains, lovers. When they part fighting, both find a woman to marry and start a family with. However, they cannot forget the other and soon meet unfrequently for fishing trips, so they can continue on their romance away from their families.
Although I actually like slash romance, I didn't enjoy this. Yes, it had all the prejudice and the problems, etc right there, also kinda matching the time, but it just didn't stike me. I doubt it was the Cowboys, because I don't really have a problem with them otherwise, the theme can be used in many good ways. No, I think it was the dynamic - since it was non-existent. Yeah, they bumped heads every once in the while and in the end was the big boom, but there wasn't really an arc of suspense. Because everytime you think "OMG, they're busted. What's gonna come now?!" actually nothing happens. Instead, everything florally nicely moves on, until the big bang in the end, but the tension moment just doesn't come back. Sad, very sad. I know the movie won several awards, but I guess it was more for the provocative theme than directing/screenplaying skills. At least for m *le sigh*
