Babydoll is sent to a mental hospital by her own father after he (more or less accidentially) kills her younger sister, and now the older needs to be silenced as well -- through a lobotomy. Yet, as she arrives, she takes note of four items she needs to escape, and then retreats into an alternate reality inside her head where the facility becomes a brothel, and Babydoll is the new dancer. She convinces four fellow inmates, who become her friends, to help her with her escape plans. And everytime Babydoll dances, so the group can receive one of the items, she envisions the women as soldiers on a mission.
This was one awesome ride. If I'd watched it without reading the summary first, it would've totally confused me, because there's not just two, but three layers to reality. I think it could've been interesting on the first level, the mental facility, because I would've loved to see the sessions and dynamic among inmates and docters happen. But I doubt it would've been much fun if it had been purely in Babydoll's brothel layer. The best parts were the all out full screen missions, that was just awesome, I especially loved Babydoll's katanas *drools* and The Wise Man in general (or as general ^.^). It was also cool to see which parts exactly ended up in the top level reality.
And it was tragic! Oh, I loved that ending! I got very emotional while watching the good guys not just fail, but fall. Although it was already hinted in the beginning, I would've never bet on that outcome.
