Based on the novel by Rick Riordan.
Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and he is accusing his brother Poseidon's demigod son Percy of the theft. If the bolt is not returned soon, Zeus promises war amongst the gods. However, Percy hasn't even got a clue he's a demigod, doesn't know anything about Olympus and the thruth these ancient legends hold. So when he's attacked, his friend Grover - on crutches - and his Latin teacher Mr. Brunner - in a wheelchair - safe him, and take him to Camp Half-Blood where all demigods are raised and trained. On the way there, Percy's mother gets killed, and soon Percy receives an offer from Hades: his mother's life for the lightning bolt. Defiant child that he is, Percy heads out together with Grover and Athena's daughter Annabeth to save his mother, in the events fighting Medusa and a Hydra, and discovering who the real lightning thief is.
I haven't read the book yet, but it's on my tbr. I watched the movie to make sure it'd be something I'd enjoy wasting my time for, and I think it will be. It was interesting, although a little bumpy in its movement and explanations, but I guess that comes together with the book to movie adaption. The cast and actual acting skills put into this was... hnja, not soo much, but I see potential if those folks really warm up and grow into their roles as young demigod heroes. And there were some people in this who were old acting veterans, maybe the contrast was a bit too much to give a fair judgement for the upcoming faces. All in all, if there was another of the installments made into a movie, I'd definitively watch it.
