I heard alot of good things about the book as they were making it into a movie, I know many readers were looking forward to seeing it on screen. Since I have so many other books to read, I decided to just go ahead and watch it without knowing anything about the story whatsoever.
That being said, I thought it was a lame version of The Hunger Games, really. I expected there to be alot more actual maze running instead of social drama, and I think the book probably has a better balance of the two. I felt the story is a very good dystopia, and I believe the second movie can be a whole lot better, since it might focus on the action of the trials more. I also think this could be an amazing read, so I'll be adding the books to my reading list, just like I did with Divergent.
I totally dig Dylan O'Brien in Teen Wolf, but he didn't convince me as Thomas -- but I think that has more to do with the plot and script than with his acting, the role just didn't let him put on all his faces. It was nice to see Will Poulter in a dick role again, he has grown lots of muscles since Narnia 3, but I would've liked it even more he had been one of the survivors.
All in all, I would give this a critical 3/5, and just look forward what they'll be serving us in the sequel movie. Maybe I have the books read by then and can do a better comparison.
