The vampires want it. The demons want it, too. And someone is willing to kill Val for it. Val and Fang have to find the powerful Encyclopedia Magicka before either of San Antonio's warring underworld factions locate it or the consequences will be deadly for the entire city. As usual, Val's vampire enemies (they still call her The Slayer) want her dead. Even some of her fellow demons may be less than trustworthy, since they'd like to grab the legendary book of spells before she does. Val has a personal claim to the Encyclopedia--her demon father left it to her when he died--but someone stole it recently. And that can't be good. Battling vamps and dodging demons, Val struggles to unravel the mystery and find the thief. At the same time, she's fighting her attraction to sweet, sexy Shade--her favorite shadow demon. Rumor has it that Val will lose her part-demon, vampire-fighting powers if she gives herself to him. With a crowd of vamps and demons out to trick her or kill her, it's not a good time for her to risk her job as the city's best vampire hunter by falling in love. The stakes are high and aimed right at her heart. But Lola, Val's hungry little lust demon, doesn't like being denied. Will Lola finally get her way? What's a part-lust-demon-teen supposed to do? Whatever it takes.

Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 34

Careful, Spoilers ahead!

After the little slump in book two, I liked this one better again. The story, the new characters, how everything developed. The dynamics was just pulling you better into the story once more. Shade just got cuter and cuter, everytime he had an appearance. ^.^ Fang was his ususal snarky self, Alejandro was a mystery as always, Micah was still there when you needed him. And - just like Val - I disliked the new guy, Trevor, on the spot. He was the type of cocky that has nothing sexy or funny to it, only goes on your nerves like crazy. All through the book, all his actions were just... suspiciously wrong. And thank God Val wasn't off one bit about him, that lying, thiefing jerk. Val's instincts are just so awesome! Although the hunt for the Encyclopedia in itself wasn't that fascinating, there were alot of events along the way, and at the end, that make this story worthwhile.

But I can't quite imagine what Val's going to do without her powers... yep, imagine that! Shade and her are going to get down to it eventually, it's just a matter of time and circumstances. And then what? Is the Encyclopedia going to protect her? I mean, it's going to give her new kinds of powers since she's the legal Keeper, I'm sure of it, but is it going to be the same? I doubt that. It'll probably take them all some time to get used to all the changes around them. So curious to read about that in the sequel Make Me! Plus, I wanna know how Dan is going to respond to Val's now finalized relationship with Shade. I still haven't written him off. And how those two are going to develop, I wonder. Aaaand that weird prophecy Alejandro about a heart aka Valentine was talking about, since we haven't gotten to any of that yet. There's so much to look forward to!
