For Ruby Moore life is far more complicated than that of your average teen, for she is in no way average. Ruby is a vampire and her life as a vampire is far from traditional.
It has been one year since her normal life was brutally taken from her. Still adjusting to the shock of the change from mortal to immortal, her world is rocked again and she is taken under the wings of a guardian angel back to Sage Sanctum- a school beyond reach from the vampires that are determined to destroy her.
There, she is freed from her vampiric chains and her normal needs and urges return. However a new urge arises… Lust. A forbidden lust toward her savior, her guardian angel.
Attempting to control these desires is difficult, very difficult and when things couldn't possibly get any worse, her situation becomes life or death as someone, somewhere in the school is aiding those who want her dead.
Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 72
Title & Cover: The cover sure has something magical about it, and the title is simple but affective, I think.
Concept: So far, we have the vampires as the true evil, soulless and all. Then there's the angels who sometimes become guardian angels, too. And what for? Well, for gods and goddesses who represent the force of good. There's some magicians around as well. I like the school concept especially.
Characters: Ruby was... well, she felt like all YA cliches clustered together. She made all the standard wrong choices because she ran through the standard YA female lead thoughts. That sucked. However, I think her goddess side and some of the cliches could become good if given better environment to develop, like in the next installment. And, she gets big plus points for being feisty and dealing out punches when she's in the right. Definitively a girl after my own heart.
Eli was a not too special, but still swoon-worthy male lead. I love me some brooding fighter who is trusted and skilled and doesn't know if heart or duty comes first.
Mina was a simply adorable sidekick, and kind of the best friend you could ever hope for. I liked her enthusiasm and huge heart. Ty was hot and confliced, and I was so shocked! Hunter was the yummy, dark, snarky, joking and sexy type. Good to know he's competition for Eli, too. I'm looking forward to more on him, and on Mina.
Plot: I thought it started out a little slow, but was rather interesting. The "I'm such a crappy vampire"-angle that captured your interest in the beginning was a little wasted in this totally new story, but kept you going until all the new and good stuff came along. I had a few eye-rolling moments, especially in the middle somewhere, but it was okay. However, I liked the traitor development that was involved!
