Our lips touch
and I know I'm going to split at the seams. He kisses me softly then strongly like he's lost me and he's found me and I'm slipping away and he's never going to let me go.

Juliette has escaped from The Reestablishment. Now she's free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch. Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible. Haunted by her past and terrified of her future, Juliette knows that she will have to make some life-changing choices. Choices that may involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

Rogue Chronicles Entry No. 113

I loved Shatter Me first and foremost for its writing style, meaning Juliette's self-censoring. But although it decresed big time in this sequel, there was still a very nice tone to the style, beautifully poetic. Mafi just has a very specific way with words, a way to invoke feelings while reading... it's amazing, and I can't help but love it.

At the end of Shatter Me, I was really curious how Juliette would handle her new found freedom, as restricted as it still was, and if and how she got a handle of her powers. Well, that also involves her relationship with Adam which I was really fond of. He was a cutie, although I have to say that I switched to Team Warner because I read Destroy Me. But even without the novella I would've switched teams, because Adam was this... this big teddy bear with boyish charme, all protective and sweet, but he didn't really have fire. He was determined, he was pushing his own limits, and I'm really not saying he is a weakling, but his mindset isn't right. He wants Juliette safe from using her powers -- which basically means he wants her to run away from what she is. And that's where Waner became the better match for her. Not that Aaron's mind wasn't a little twisted, but I think he can be fixed and function as a caring human being, despite his father's best efforts to turn him into a monster.

That being said: Oh, did I love how this turned out! This had some big time surprises in store, and I basically loved them all. Very curious how this is going to play out further, and/or if there are any more surprises in store for us. Definitvely some more psycho, and mission and paranormal action, too. Yes, there was not just drama and heartache and a love triangle, there was also some good and hearty action, just like towards the end of the first novel. Very much looking forward to the conclusion of it all!

Synonyms know each other like old colleagues, like a set of friends who’ve seen the world together. They swap stories, reminisce about their origins and forget that though they are similiar, they are entirely different, and though they share a certain set of attributes, one can never be the other. (page 108)

„How am I supposed to go back?” he asks, so quietly. „How am I supposed to forget what it was like to be with you? To be loved by you?” (page 287)

„You can go to hell,” Adam shouts at Warner.
„Just because I’m going to hell,” Warner says, „doesn’t mean you’ll ever deserve her.”
(page 291)

„I love it when you say my name,” he says. „I don’t even know why.”
„Warner isn’t your name,” I point out. „Your name is Aaron.”
His smile is wide, so wide. „God, I love that.”
„Your name?”
„Only when you say it.”
„Aaron? Or Warner?”
His eyes close. He tilts his head back against the wall. Dimples.
(page 326)

„I want so many things,” he whispers. „I want your mind. Your strength. I want to be worth your time.” His fingers graze the hem of my top and he says „I want this up.” He tugs ont he waist of my pants and says „I want these down.” He touches the tips of his fingers to the side of my body and says, „I want to feel your skin on fire. I want to feel your heart racing next to mine and I want to know it’s racing because of me, because you want me. Because you never,” he says, he breathes, „never want me to stop. I want every second. Every inch of you. I want all of it.”
(page 394 – Note to self: start on 390 and keep reading til end of chapter!)
